Visit Your National Parks!
i took this job
hiking the grounds
of national parks
in hopes that
i could land those big-time hollywood roles
calling for a man who learned
to turn into a poster child:
the picture of survival in the wild.
but now i know that on your own,
you can't save any kind of forest
armed with only flint, fire, and
some boy scout ways to
make it through the night.
so i'll go back to a life in denial,
and drain my 401k
seduce the trophy wife
i had no wish to purchase
or be with.
there's a certain sense of regret in
feeling like the atmosphere
is the highest height i'll ever hit,
no matter how far away i go from here;
it'll always feel like i was born
in the wrong time or hemisphere.
so if waiting takes all the fun out of airplanes,
and all the brilliant things minds will ever make,
you never even know what you're missing
until someone can realize its shape.
take me, take me to a new frontier
i've seen the smartest thinkers
spending their time with even smarter men,
'cause you can't hope to rewrite history
if you're the mental giant
amongst your friends.

Welcome Home
04:05
|

welcome home
my life is like
garden state
personified
not all homecomings
warrant celebration.
i went to a party last night
where nobody knew my face
with cocaine drained minds
these kids tried to find ecstasy
behind breathing teeth
man, this kind of reality
can bring you to your knees
but that's okay with me:
after the shit i've seen
take me for a ride;
anywhere you like.
pick up and go, just
forget the compass rose.
i know we can't drive around the world
but if you're with me,
i won't stop when we hit the coast
'cause i'll be damned
if we don't float to
whichever shore
you wish to claim as yours.
and i would fight for your right to say so.
take me for a ride;
anywhere you like.
pick up and go, just
forget the compass rose.
only this time
make me remember
why i liked being here.
because that memory
is gone now,
and i wish it wasn't.
but now i've learned
a catharsis
only heals sweeter
when it's earned.

Optimism (Intro)

optimism (intro)
it's a tough call
but if you can't
make that crushed confessional crawl,
then you won't be able to leave
and you'll kneel alone
on the fake plastic land.
a broken hearted schoolyard crush,
where everyone's happy,
but you're just shit.
out of luck and just not worth it
(just keep swimming)
but if you're optimistic,
you just might make it

Small World (Our World)
03:23
|
|||
small world (our world)
let's draw lines on the map
claim the globe with a pencil lead
we'll carve up the coast
and make castles for kings
whose hands never worked
but enjoy the finest of things.
carve up the coast, count out a cost
if you ever get lost
(just) start counting again.
'cause numbers don't lie, yeah, numbers don't lie
it's a small world
drawn by majestic minds
but all the trade ties (changed)
when the crown was the one
enforcing the lines
it's a small world, our world
and we're gonna do anything to
leave it when we're ready to
but if whatever's meant to happen
ends up happening soon
will we deserve the fate?
was it something we made?
if this world's ending soon,
would you do
one favor i asked you to,
would you stay by my side?
when you're around
i miss nothing at all:
you make my world so small
it's a small world, our world
and we're gonna do anything to
leave it when we're ready to
but if whatever's meant to happen
ends up happening soon
will we deserve the fate?
was it something we made?
